Winter has arivied here at collinwood yard in cleveland in a very wet
way...So i feel that certain saftey pre-cautions should be taked for
winter riders..
1.Cold air is dencer and does not carry sound well so when crossing
tracks Look both ways.Snwo also asorbes sound as well
2.Wear gloves with rubber studs on them to ensure grips on weta
railing.
3.Wear rubber soled steel toed boots at all time on the railroad and
avoid wearing sneekers.
4.Jumping off a moving train into a snow bank may seem like a fun way
to hop off a train but snow often hides debris that can cause serios
injury.
5.recomedned clothing is Carharts overalls and sleeping bag with a mat
to insulate you from the cold steel floors.
6.Due to terrositic threats avoid riding on units no matter how warm
and tempting they may be unless you have the express consent of a
authrised person which these days may be very unlikely to get.
7.Minmise wait times for trains by checking the Bullsheet and prodigy
scedules.TrainWeb now has csx time tables
8.A warm thermous bottle prefferd brand is nissan thermoses are best
as i had one that i poured hot tea into and was still hot three days
latter.
9.Cell phones are now cheap and easy to get,,By law all cell phones
have free 911 service including prepaid ones.
10.Socks should be kept dry ..Charcole hand heeters have never worked
well in my experace,,chemical heat paks(Cheep at two dollers each)
work best. There are now even Army surplus MRE(rations) avalible from
armysurpls stores that work off of chemical heat paks.
11.Ride on rear of cars to avoid wind, try to find enclsed spaces like
canadian grain hoppers that are out of the wind, there is a reason why
they are made like that.avoind geting on or off trains that are
moving.
Winter travel can be fun and rewarding. There are avantages of riding
in the winter as oppsed to summer such as not having to deal with
bugs, showering ocne week as oppsed to everyday and the food does not
spoil..
