This also brings us into something I'd been meaning to bring up.

The bad guys have figured out that if they deliberately avoid the
19th-century concepts of war, the American Left will oppose doing
anything about them.

Thus, they deliberately don't take official government positions;
instead, they work unofficially with governments, even in some cases
being defacto heads of state (I.E., Usama bin Laden in Afghanistan), but
because they don't take official titles, the Left falls for the trick
and believes their actions to not be actions of the country involved.

They have also learned not to declare war, although that hasn't
completely taken; remember that Iraq declared war on us, and that state
of war was only stopped by a conditional cease fire, not a treaty ending
the state of war. We are still legally at war with Iraq, and under
international law we've been entitled to resume hostilities with them
since they refused to meet their inspection requirements. Each time
they fire at one of our planes is an act of war, as well.

Afghanistan, however, learned the lesson, and didn't declare war; they
just gave bin Laden nigh-ultimate power and free reign, allowing him to
hid behind Afghan sovereignity, secure in the belief that American
liberals would protect him as he put $125 Million in Iraqi funds into
use attacking the US. (Source; Hussein's former mistress.)

And you supposedly-intelligent people fell for it; hook, line, and sinker.

You let Usama bin Laden's organization attack us not once, not twice,
but six times so far, not counting recent attacks since we destroyed
the Taliban; the 1993 WTC attack, the bombing of the Cole, and the four
successful hijackings on Sept. 11 that culiminated in three successful
attacks on US buildings and civilian population.

If you oppose wiping Al Qaeda out because of all these attacks, you
can't really in good conscience support taking out Japan in response to
the smaller attack on Pearl Harbor.

If you oppose wiping related terrorist groups out for killing Israeli
citizens and US citizens in Israel, then you can't in good conscience
support taking out Germany for killing a few million Jews and attacking
their neighbors.

In short, the American Left is the same bunch of hypocrites it's always
been. But then, you have to have a certain level of pathogical
detachment from reality to be a liberal in the first place.

Fortunately, wiser heads prevailed, and gave an unprecedented mid-term
election mandate to the slightly-less-insane Republicans; who, although
deeply flawed, at least understand that the tree of liberty must
occasionally be refreshed with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

I recall (from history, not personal experience) the first time the
Republicans took over the government. The Democrats were dead-set
opposed to their big policy initiative then, too; freeing the slaves.
You can say this for the Dems; at least they're consistently
inconsistent.
