Basing my reasoning on the technique referred to in _Cryptonomicon_,
surely there must be some javurscript or activex magic that can
continuously change the desktop resolution until the monitor dies, or
the graphics card / main CPU give up.

Or just set it to some insane refresh rate, so the monitor generates
that high pitched whiney noise, thus driving the person sitting in front
of it batshit crazy, making them run out, steal an axe, and find some
snow to die in. Preferably with a skidoo riding off into the sunset.
