	Perhaps they once did, in the form of small independently
owned shops and storefronts, and WAL-MART came in with its cheap
underwear and ran them all out of business.  Perhaps the town once had
a town center with front porches and everything within walking (or
horse-riding) distance, and now it's all paved over nothing with
tracks of extra nothing in between.

	I'm not against small towns, but this country has turned them
all into parking lots.
