I recently tried to determine exactly which versions of the aforementioned
abomination were susceptible to the begin "exploit"...

Finding 1: There are no versions.

On about ten different, recently set up Windows machines, no two had the
  same version of email client.

Most were OE, some were O2K, and one was O98, but even the clients of
similar outward version had different version numbers.

I'm inclined to believe that MS are in fact tracking users by unique
versioning. You read it here first.

Finding 2: We still have a long way to go.

Me: "What email client do you use?"

  Dolt: "Sorry?"

Me: "What software do you use for email?"

  Dolt: "Microsoft."

  Me: "Which program?"

  Dolt: "Email."

Me: "The name of the thing that has your email in it?"

  Dolt: "The Internet."

Me: "What do you read your email with?"

  Dolt: "A computer!!!"
