mutt doesn't really open the mailboxes on startup. Opening them is when you
change to them. What system is this? I've never seen mutt open anything of
considerable size "instantaneously".

When I said less than a second, btw, I was probably being conservative. I
just tested, and noticed no delay at all, except for the little time it took
for the GUI to redraw.
