I ran Tim Pozar's Fidogate on mine (1:125/27, and also in two other
Fido-technology networks), plus participated in a couple of those lame
QWK-based networks, plus even dabbled in RelayMail. For about six
years. Then, one fine day, I finally decided that it was all just plain
uninteresting, badly designed, and going nowhere. About three years
into using freeware *ixes on other boxen, in fact.

Fido technology is perfect for some countries with underdeveloped
infrastructure. Central Asia and most of South America, for example --
and I understand that the FidoNet nodelist is _still_ getting bigger all
the time. But, in the longer term, it's crippled by questionable (and
incompatible) design decisions.
