Thank the FRENCH for these products of public education who grow up to
make black-and-white B movies that depict a man in a bowler hat walking
down a street (a man, like any other man.  in fact, it is, just some man,
not even an actor) while a pretentious male voiceover discusses
Metaphysics. Entertainment, at its finest!  how, oh how _cultural_.

But, why bother with a street, a man, an actor at all?  As _Alphaville_,
simply fill the screen with a giant blinking stoplight, add Metaphysical
Voiceover, and voila!  Art!  Oh, it is so sublimely MODERN, so Mechanical,
Essential.  The Grey Machine, evoked on the Gray Screen, hah HA!  A giant
Bulb of Light, ELECTRIC light, and it BLINKS!  BRILLIANT!

Oh, that I had been priviledged with such philosophy in _my_ high school,
I might have narrowly escaped my American life of drugs and television and
smack addiction.  But, the priviledged life of FRENCH public education was
denied me by my Eevil and unenlightened American warden-educators, and
thus, here am I, filled with regret, wallowing in the depths of
philosophical doom.
