As Rick (aka ScratchMonkey) and I were driving our respective cars to San
Francisco last night, he pulls off the freeway and starts driving
(suddenly and mysteriously) on surface streets.
He pulls over and tells me that a car and a truckload full of chickens had
a collision and, as the chickens (no doubt both alive and departed) were
littered about the freeway, we had to take a detour.
Circuitous doesn't even begin to cover it!
A real crackmonkey event, particularly when Rick drove on a section of
closed road and made a sudden right...I almost didn't see the gaping pit
I catch up behind him and the *second* of the police cars of the night's
trip pulls up ominously behind me. He weasled his way in between Rick and
I and I had to pull a very crackmonkey-like Vermont sumo driver move to
manage to get on the freeway behind Rick. For some reason (perhaps the
move was so incredible the cop missed it entirely?), he didn't follow.
Odd, I think.
